March 6 was an exciting day for McLaren Greater Lansing as they moved 112 patients safely from their legacy hospitals to the new replacement hospital at 2900 Collins Road. This wasn’t the only cause celebration this day; however, two babies were born on March 6 at the hospitals.
The first baby, Terri-Anne Shaver, was born to parents Andrew and Kaleigh Shaver at 4:31 a.m. at the McLaren Greater Lansing at 401 W. Greenlawn Avenue and then later transferred by ambulance to the new hospital. She was the last baby to be born at the legacy McLaren Greater Lansing hospital.
“Everything went really well, and went really fast,” said Kaleigh Shaver.
Kaleigh’s husband Andrew is a supervisor for Supply Chain Management at McLaren Greater Lansing. He was working Saturday getting the hospital ready for the first patients the next day. When he arrived home later that night Kaleigh said, “It is time to go.”
“It’s a bittersweet ending to here,” said Andrew Shaver. “It’s a fun way to say goodbye to the building I have been working in.”
The Shavers transferred to the new hospital later that day and finished their stay as patients. Terri-Anne and her parents were excited to head home to meet her older sister and brother.
The second baby, Benjamin Sklar, was born to parents Matthew Sklar and Kayla Muston later that day at 11:30 p.m. and was the first baby born at the new McLaren Greater Lansing.
Both babies received a $10,000 scholarship from the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation to be used toward higher education in 18 years.
